This is my first NCYC experience. Since we had such a large delegation attending, and since Indianapolis is only a 4-hour drive, it seemed to make sense for me to attend. Even though this is only the beginning of the 2nd day, I can tell you that it IS an "experience"! This is a huge event, with approximately 25,000 young people (and adult chaperones) present from literally all over the country. I walked (and by the way, there's a lot of that----"walking"-----here since the conference is held in the Indiana Convention Center and the Lucas Oil Stadium; and both of these facilities are huge!) to the opening session last evening with a group from Beaumont, Texas. I sat with some of our Kalamazoo Diocesan delegation last evening for the Opening Session, and look forward to the scheduled events over these next two days, including the opportunity for just our delegation to celebrate Mass and share breakfast together early Saturday morning. The most impressive part of this experience thusfar, besides the vitality (read: "noise") of young people is how excited these young people are to be Catholic! It is very inspiring and fills me with hope to be present with this huge group of engaged, enthused, and involved young people----or as they are regularly referred to here: the Young Church.
